OUR CUSTOM BUILD PROCESS

What might start as an inspiration photo, a sketch on a piece of paper or an empty wall you've never known what to do with, as a design build contractor, we are to bring all the ideas to life.

Tell Us Your Vision

We start by taking a look at the space thoroughly. We then review your inspiration photos, sketches, examples and ideas to get a better understanding of your style, your priorities and the overall investment range you are comfortable with.

Space Feasibility

We'll evaluate the available space along with existing walls, framing, electrical, plumbing, windows, and other conditions that could affect the project. From there, we can determine what's feasible, identify potential challenges, and suggest ways to make the idea work within your space.

Designing Something for You

Once layout and feasibility is determined, we can begin developing the design. We will work through dimensions, cabinetry configurations, storage solutions, architectural details and lighting. This is where the initial idea will start to take shape.

Materials & Finishes

Material selection is a major impact to the overall appearance and cost of a custom piece. Depending on the design, we may work with paint-grade or stain-grade woods, hardwoods, plywood, cabinetry materials, quartz or stone, tile, lighting, and other finishes. We'll help you understand the differences between the options and select materials that make sense for both the design and how the finished piece will be used.

Building & Bringing An Idea To Life

This is the fun part! This is where you see your idea turn into reality. Depending on the project, items may be built off-site and then installed in the home or may be built-in place. We will then coordinate electrical, countertops, painting, or other finish work required to complete the design. The end product will be a personal piece in your home that looks like it was always there.

Custom Projects FAQ

How much does custom carpentry or a custom built-in cost?

The cost of custom carpentry varies depending on the size, complexity, materials, finishes, hardware, and level of customization involved. CLH Construction can help establish an estimated investment range based on your ideas before moving into detailed design.

What materials can I choose for custom cabinetry and built-ins?

Material selections can depend on the desired appearance, durability, and budget. Options can include paint-grade or stain-grade hardwoods, hardwood plywood, specialty panels, natural wood, quartz or stone tops, decorative hardware, and other finish materials. We can help compare options and select materials that achieve the look you want while remaining practical for the space.

Can you match the existing style and finishes in my home?

In most cases, yes. Custom carpentry can be designed to complement existing cabinetry, trim, molding, stain colors, paint colors, and architectural details. While an exact match isn't always possible, we work to create a finished product that feels intentional and integrated with the existing home features.

Can you design something if I only have an idea or inspiration photo?

Absolutely! You don't need to have every detail figured out before contacting us. We can start with inspiration photos, sketches, measurements, or simply an idea of what you're trying to accomplish. From there, we can evaluate the space, develop the design, determine materials and finishes, and establish a detailed scope before construction begins.
